Friends Of Loving Earth: Georgia Irwin from The Kindness Echoes

Say hi to our friend Georgia Irwin! She's the lovely face behind the conscious raw + baked plant-based treats business, The Kindness Echoes  - her Vegan Magnums, Twix bars, and Chocolate Tarts are *DROOL* factors!

Keep scrolling as she reveals some of her tips on starting a food-based business, her go-to recipes and what her non-negotiables are when it comes to health & wellbeing!

Georgia, you’re the queen of raw + vegan treats! We can't get over how delicious your desserts look on Insta! Are you able to tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started with your business, The Kindness Echoes?

I love this story because it happened so organically. My partner and I had recently gone vegan and we were experimenting with food. Craving a good vegan treat (I am a real sweet-tooth) I started looking for a good raw vegan treat I could make at home. I posted my first raw vegan cake to my private instagram and I woke up the next day with 3 messages from local cafes asking if I was stocking vegan treats. 2 weeks later I had a registered kitchen, I was stocking cafes, started up 'The Kindness Echoes' instagram & taking private orders. It was a really beautiful, quick transition from hobby to a business basically overnight.

What are your non-negotiables when it comes to health and general lifestyle?

Work life balance; this is something I have recently put into practice and is now extremely important to me. When I first started the business I really pushed myself, which can be important in the beginning but for your sanity you need to book time in with your friends, family and time for you. A plant-based diet is also a non-negotiable. I love creating healthy alternatives and being vegan means I get to explore and create with different foods everyday.

Not only are you a baking genius, but you're quite the pro when it comes to styling and photography too! Has cooking, styling + photography always been an interest of yours?

I had bought a canon camera a few years before starting The Kindness Echoes. When I started creating food I thought it was the perfect opportunity to learn how to use it. I'm self taught so I just started shooting. I had no idea what I was doing and I am still learning everyday. it is such a great skill to have, especially if you are a small business owner, I highly recommended everyone to get a good camera and experiment with photography.

What's one highlight and one challenge you've come across since starting your business?

The biggest highlight is seeing so many of my customers embracing change. The Kindness Echoes is a vegan and eco friendly brand and everyone has being so supportive of what I do. I have customers from all walks of life ordering my treats, the community I have built around me is so important to me and it makes me so happy to see it constantly growing. I feel really lucky that I have been connected with so many open people.

The biggest challenge has been figuring out my limits, capacity and worth when it comes to orders and sticking to them, not biting off more than I could chew was really tough.

This is where it definitely helps to be organised and have a really good calendar system when you first start your business.

What are your top 3 tips for starting a food-based business?

1. Passion: If you're passionate about food, keep creating and experimenting with it. I cook every single day but on top of that, I also read food magazines online, I try to stay on top of food trends, push myself in the kitchen and don't get disheartened when it doesn't quite go as planned. The best way to get good at something is to immersing yourself in it completely.

2. Style: Find your unique style and make it part of your brand. Keep your range small, powerful, punchy and representative of who you are.

3. Photography: I am so visual when it comes to food; I think everyone is, if food looks good, people want to eat it. If you can make peoples mouth water, half your battles already won.

If there were one signature recipe you’d share as your legacy, what would it be?

It would defiantly be my 'Vegan Sausage Rolls'. They are filled with natural, healthy ingredients. I am known for my cakes but people always come back for my sausage rolls at markets. They will start with one and leave with a tray.

When did you first find out about us here at Loving Earth?

It was early on in the piece; the values of the Loving Earth resonated with me and the Kindness Echoes from the beginning - it is vegan, eco friendly and Melbourne made. Now we almost use the whole range for our cakes, and our customers love the flavours.

What’s your favourite Loving Earth chocolate flavour?

Its a tough choice - but I think it would be the caramel or salted caramel. We dip and coat so many of our favourite magnums with the caramel flavour. Our golden gaytimes for example are dipped into this and then the mylk chocolate which gives them such a depth of flavour.

What is Loving Earth to you?

I think it is really important to embrace natural ingredients that come from our planet. Our home is the most important thing above all else. That is why we choose Loving Earth products and other natural brands that trend lightly on this earth. To love our planet is to be as gentle and kind to it as as possible.
